The Project
In the past three years we, Michelle Cappel, Angus Hannigan, and Jackie Haynes, have been collaborating on chalk drawings in local Cincinnati parks. We have received a positive reaction from the community, and in the process we have met a variety of people through our public display, many of whom have visited us multiple times in our projects. The subjects of our work have been primarily light hearted and fun in order to break up the mondan routine of daily life. Our collaboration teaches us different problem solving techniques; communication, compromising, collaboration, and planning.

Our goal here is to bring our work to new locations, and elevate our work by placing it next to fine art spaces. By working outside of galleries we have the opportunity to connect with people interested in art. In contrast we will also be working in unexpected places to bring art to people who are not involved in the art community.
A chalk drawing that takes time and effort from us could be hung on a wall or displayed in a gallery, however we have no issue with leaving these drawings on the ground to be walked on and edited by the community. We will leave a package of chalk behind with each of our finished pieces and encourage the community to take part in the art.

Part of the work will be documenting the changes that happen to these pieces over time. We will revisit these pieces a few days after doing them to document who edited or added to them, and how they stood the test of time, weather, and foot traffic. We will take polished photographs before and after and print them as an edition so that each piece exists forever in both its untouched and altered forms.
